Tom Christerson, founder of Central City, Ky.-based Pace Tire Center Inc. and the longest living artificial heart recipient, died Feb. 7. He was 71.
Hoyt M. Wells, former Goodyear president, vice chairman and chief operating officer, died March 24. He was 76.
A 44-year year veteran of Goodyear, Mr. Wells was credited by many as being a major part of Goodyear's turnaround in the 1990s following the takeover attempt by the late Sir James Goldsmith.
Saul Ganin, former president of Reynolds Tire & Rubber, a division of Ganin Tire Co. Inc., died Oct. 30. He was 83.
He was a member of the Tire Industry Hall of Fame and is remembered for launching the Reynolds, Vanderbilt, Brigadier and Ultra-Tech brands.
Art Bakaitis, a longtime director of corporate communications for Cooper Tire & Rubber Co., died Nov. 25. He was 67.
Ernest H. Zielasko, the first editor and publisher of Tire Business and founder of Rubber & Plastics News, died Dec. 13. He was 84.
He was a member of the Tire Industry Hall of Fame and earned numerous awards, including the John S. Knight Award for journalism from the Buckeye Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists in 1985.
