BOWIE, Md. (Dec. 10, 2003) — The Tire Industry Association (TIA) hopes to help its members reduce costs of energy, utility and telecommunications services through a new program.
TIA has added the Affiliated Power Purchasers International L.L.C. (APPI) “Savings Solutions” program. APPI is an independent utility consulting firm that analyzes and negotiates utility services such as energy, water, waste removal, freight, check processing, credit card processing and telecommunications.
Roy Littlefield, TIA executive vice president, said the service is available in all 50 states, though dealers in deregulated states likely will see the most savings potential. He said APPI does not charge any up-front fees. Instead, the company shares a percentage of the savings they achieve for a business.
TIA has not run a similar program in the past, but Mr. Littlefield said the former International Tire & Rubber Association had.
“As deregulation expands from state to state, if you have something in place from the beginning it's really an advantage for members,” he told Tire Business.
