LAS VEGAS (Nov. 5, 2003) — Superior Tire Inc.'s 16 stores in Nevada will be converted in the coming months to either Big O Tires Inc. or Scher-Superior Tire outlets as joint owners Goodyear and TBC Corp. sort out their ownership stakes.
Seven of Superior Tire's outlets are being converted to Big O stores under the direction of Steve Smith, a former Winston Tire Co. executive. He, along with partner Alan Wilson, took over eight Big O franchises in the Las Vegas area earlier this year, principally from longtime Big O franchisees Jeff and Wes Stephenson.
The remaining outlets reportedly will come under the management supervision of Scher Tire Inc., the Riverside, Calif-based dealership with 22 outlets in five counties in southern California. Owner Bruce Scher could not be reached for comment. Mountain View Tire and Service Inc. of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., had managed the 16-store Superior Tire chain for four years before opting out of that agreement earlier this year.
Superior Tire has been an independent Goodyear dealer since 1943, according to the dealership's Web site.
