NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Oct. 15, 2003) — Bridgestone/Firestone is bringing its “Indy Racing Challenge” display to the upcoming Specialty Equipment Market Association/International Tire Expo trade shows in Las Vegas.
The tire maker plans to bring one of five themed displays—comprising its “Indy Racing Fan Experience,” which has been traveling across the country all year—to the SEMA show's Silver Lot 2, west of the Center Halls of the Las Vegas Convention Center during the course of the show, Nov. 4-7. The “challenge” display is a high-performance mobile race simulator that uses the Indy Racing League's (IRL) IndyCar Series video game. It allows participants to sit in an actual IndyCar Series racer and compete against each other and their favorite drivers on real IndyCar Series tracks. Jumbo video screens and a full-time announcer add to the game's realism, BFS said.
Calling the display a “must-see stop” for showgoers, Phil Pacsi, executive director of North American consumer tire brand marketing for Nashville-based BFS, said the IRL “offers some of today's most exciting motorsports events, and we are very excited to bring the Indy Racing Challenge to the SEMA show this year.”
Introduced in 1996, the IRL is based in Indianapolis. Its IndyCar Series features open-wheel race cars competing on oval tracks worldwide. Firestone has been the official tire of the IRL since 1999.
