RICHMOND, British Columbia (Oct. 7, 2003) — SmarTire Systems Inc. launched two new tire pressure monitoring systems for the recreational vehicle market, the Richmond-based manufacturer said.
The RoadVoice and TrailerVoice monitors are the first products to target specifically the RV, towed vehicle and trailer markets, SmarTire claimed. The U.S. RV industry is a $12.3 billion market with as many concerns with tire inflation as the passenger tire market, SmarTire said.
RoadVoice is designed for light recreational vehicles and vehicles or trailers towed behind large motorhomes. SmarTire plans to expand this product line in 2004 to include larger motorhomes and buses. The device currently is being tested by RV manufacturers, chassis manufacturers and commercial vehicle operators in North America, Europe and Asia.
TrailerVoice is designed to monitor single and double axle boat and horse trailers, car haulers, farm trailers and other utility trailers. One producer of recreational boat trailers, EZ Loader Boat Trailers, said it would offer the device on its units, according to SmarTire.
“It is extremely difficult for a driver to detect an underinflated tire or a tire puncture on a boat trailer,” said Gary Potter, general manager of EZ Loader. “To protect the investment in their boat and trailer, our customers are beginning to demand tire pressure monitoring systems.”
