The Tire Industry Association (TIA) has launched the first phase of its online training program for passenger, sport-utility vehicle and light truck tire and wheel service technicians.
The Automotive Tire Service (ATS) training program is the next step in training for TIA after offering two levels of its commercial training program, TIA officials have said. It is the first educational course released since the merger forming TIA in July 2002.
The first phase of the program, 200 Level Basic ATS, is aimed at new hires, although experienced technicians looking for more training also can benefit, TIA said. It is sold as a 12-month subscription with unlimited access to the Web-based training component.
A version with a DVD, VHS tape and 200-page workbook is available for businesses without Internet access.
With the launch of the program Sept. 15, TIA is accepting orders. The price ranges from $100 to $150 each for TIA members, depending on the quantity ordered.
Basic ATS features eight modules, covering tire construction, vehicle jacking/lifting, tire/wheel assembly installation and removal, rim clamp demount/mount/inflate procedures, center-post demount/mount/inflate procedures, tire balancing, tire repair and diagnosing tire problems.
Following the Basic ATS launch, TIA next will release 300 Level Certified Program for Technicians and 400 Level Certified Program for Instructors.
