TOKYO (Sept. 24, 2003) — Bridgestone Corp. has resumed production of tires in undamaged portions of its Tochigi, Japan, plant that was damaged by a fire Sept. 8-9 in the rubber mixing process area.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze before it could spread to other parts of the plant, Bridgestone said.
The company has verified the soundness of electrical and gas lines and of all equipment and determined that conditions in the plant—excepting the damaged rubber mixing shop—warrant resuming production.
The plant makes passenger and light and medium truck tires. Bridgestone did not say what effect the fire would have on expansion plans announced earlier in 2003 for radial truck tires at the plant.
