Prices of tread rubber, tire sundries and repair materials jumped 3 percent in April from 2002 levels, according to the Labor Department's Producer Price Index.
Prices of original equipment and replacement light highway radials climbed 3.3 percent while remaining unchanged from March and dipping 0.1 percent from January.
Radial truck tire prices jumped 2.9 percent from year-ago levels but also remained unchanged from March. Truck/bus tire prices rose 2.8 percent from 2002 and 1.1 percent from January.
Meanwhile, passenger tire prices fell 1.1 percent from March but remained 1.1 percent higher than a year ago. All-season passenger tire prices dropped 1.5 percent from March and fell 0.7 percent from 2002.
