Ron Cole, owner of Elwood Tire and Auto Service in Evansville, Ind., won the grand prize in a Bridgestone/Firestone contest to drive an Indy-style car and attend a racing school.
As part of the Victory Lane Sweepstakes, offered by BFS' TireStarz program, Mr. Cole drove 14 laps around the Nashville Superspeedway during the Firestone Indy 200 race weekend July 19. Driving 101, the racing school, also gave Mr. Cole a racing license and photo package.
``It was an unbelievable experience,'' said Mr. Cole, a TireStarz dealer.
He also received two hospitality tickets to the race as well as hotel, airfare and spending money in Nashville.
TireStarz dealers were entered in the sweepstakes by purchasing Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 tires in March. The winner was picked at random.
In a separate contest, BFS presented two consumers one of two grand prizes, a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado truck or 2003 Chevy Malibu LS during the Aug. 3 finale of the Firehawk Indy 400/Chevrolet Race 2 Win Sweepstakes at Michigan International Speedway.
Craig McDaniel of Tulsa, Okla., and Clara Farmer of Houston won the Silverado and Malibu respectively, in a pre-race ceremony before the Firestone Indy 400 race.
The two were among five finalists who drew two keys and used them to try to start either vehicle. The three remaining finalists each received a Pioneer Touch Screen Navigation System, and all five met Sam Hornish Jr., defending two-time IndyCar Series champion and driver of the Pennzoil Panther Chevrolet.
