CINCINNATI (Aug. 21, 2003) — Several days of almost non-stop bargaining between negotiators for Goodyear and the United Steelworkers of America (USWA) produced a new three-year master contract Aug. 20, but one of the company's plants and its workers will be casualties of the tentative deal.
As part of the agreement, Goodyear will close its Goodyear-Dunlop Tires North America passenger and light truck tire plant in Huntsville, Ala., according to a spokesman at USWA Local 915 in Huntsville. The factory employs about 1,300, including more than 1,000 USWA members. The spokesman said the closing should take place by year-end.
The agreement now must be ratified by a majority of the 14 locals covered by the contract representing a majority of the 16,000 workers covered by the agreement.
