CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Aug. 4, 2003)—Continental Tire North America Inc. has introduced a new all-terrain tire, the General Grabber AT2, the Charlotte-based tire maker said.
The new tire is the next generation in the Grabber family of light truck tires, which is being re-launched, Conti said. It will be available beginning Aug. 1, with 26 sizes available by the fourth quarter.
The Grabber AT2 features an aggressive tread pattern, a new square profile and a special bead protector ring designed to increase durability, Continental said. Cut and chip-resistant compounds aim to maximize tread life.
“We designed the Grabber AT2 for driving through areas other tires have to go around,” said Jim Mayfield, director of General brand management. “At the same time, the tire also maintains its road manners, providing a safe and comfortable highway ride.”
Conti is launching the tire to dealers and consumers through the General Tire Baseball USA tour, a 12-week tour of major and minor league ballparks. A dealer will be randomly selected at each event to win a free set of tires. At the end of the tour, the tire maker also will select a dealer to win a Chevy Avalanche, the official vehicle of the baseball tour.
“Dealer interest in the new tire has already been overwhelming,” Mr. Mayfield said in a statement. “We are currently putting the finishing touches on the dealer support mechanisms that will make the tire a valued part of our customers' product offerings.”
