GREENVILLE, S.C. (Aug. 1, 2003) – Michelin North America Inc.'s latest entry in the premium sedan and minivan tire segment, the wet-weather-optimized “HydroEdge,” will be available in dealer showrooms in the U.S., Canada and Mexico starting Monday, Aug. 4.
The T-rated HydroEdge uses angled grooves, dubbed “HydroChutes,” to channel water away from the contact patch and dual center grooves to evacuate water out the back of the contact patch. Together, these design elements maximize hydroplaning resistance by minimizing water flow turbulence, Michelin said.
The new tire line will be offered initially in 20 sizes, covering 14- to 17-inch fitments, and is backed by an 85,000-mile treadlife warranty, which Michelin said is its best ever.
The new line also has full-depth sipes that perform throughout the life of tire and “Durablack” sidewalls for a sharp appearance, the firm said. The tread design also optimizes traction in dry conditions, Michelin claims.
A recent independent study conducted for Michelin found 83 percent of those surveyed believe the most valuable asset in wet driving conditions is tires. Yet 45 percent of those surveyed do not ride on tires that are optimized to perform better in the wet, the company said.
Consumers can visit www.michelinman.com starting the 4th to check availability of the HydroEdge for their vehicles and to locate an authorized Michelin dealer. Michelin did not say whether this new tire would replace an existing tire line or complement the existing range of tires for passenger cars and minivans.
