CHICAGO (June 25, 2003)—Company officials and dealers in Bridgestone/Firestone's Affiliated Dealer and TireStarz USA programs raised $8,000 for the United Way of Chicago on June 8.
The funds were collected during the 3rd annual United Way Car and Bike Show, held at the UPS distribution center in Hodgkins, Ill. The show featured more than 700 cars, trucks and bikes and drew about 9,000 people, Bridgestone/Firestone said. With other groups participating, the event raised about $50,000 for the charity.
Nine Chicago-area TireStarz and Affiliated Dealers sponsored a tent at the event with Bridgestone/Firestone. Volunteers passed out nearly 5,000 tire gauges and “Inflate, Rotate and Evaluate” brochures. Participants also provided bottled water with Bridgestone and Firestone brand logos for a $1 donation, which also entered them in a raffle for a new set of tires. The dealer donations, water sales and BFS sponsorship raised the $8,000.
“We estimate that 2,000 people visited the tent,” said Barry Feasel, general manager of Affiliated Dealer sales. “We were the biggest draw of the event, other than the food truck.”
