ROME, Ga. (June 12, 2003) — Panoz Auto Development has selected Pirelli Tire North America Inc.'s Z-rated P Zero Rosso tires as the exclusive original equipment fitment on its new Esperante GTLM luxury sports car.
The agreement expands the relationship between the tire maker and Panoz Motor Sports Group, Pirelli said. Last summer, the tire maker and the racing group announced a four-year sponsorship making Pirelli the official tire of Road Atlanta, Sebring International Raceway and the Panoz Racing School. Pirelli is the official tire of the Panoz GT and Panoz GT Pro Series and the Audi Driving Experience held at Road Atlanta in Braselton, Ga.
The Esperante race car's chassis and body are made almost entirely of lightweight aluminum. Its body panels are formed using the aerospace industry's Superplastic Forming technology, Pirelli said. With the technology, the aluminum endures less stress and retains its strength. The two-seat vehicle is powered by a 4.6-liter Ford Cobra V8 engine that generates 320 horsepower.
P Zero Rosso high-performance radials will outfit the car in size P225/40ZR18 on the front and P295/35ZR18 on the rear. The ultra-low-profile tires are designed to provide safety in potential aquaplaning situations, Pirelli said.
In addition, Panoz will equip the racing version of the Esperante GTLM, set to set to debut June 29 at the American LeMans Series race at Road Atlanta, with Pirelli P Zero racing slicks.
