FINDLAY, Ohio-Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. will sponsor veteran professional desert racer Bob Land in the 2003 Southern California Off Road Enterprises (SCORE) race series.
Mr. Land will compete on modified Cooper Discoverer tires, designed for desert racing. Cooper said the tires look similar to its Discoverer LT tire, which has a tread pattern designed to handle loose terrain and rock.
The series comprises six races, including the Baja 500 and Baja 1000. Mr. Land, who has raced off-road since 1987, also will participate in the Australian Safari, an eight-day, 5,000-kilometer race in the Australian Outback.
He has class wins in two Baja 1000s, two Baja 500s, two San Felipe 250s and two Australian Safaris, Cooper said.

rubber track mark
AKRON-Goodyear's rubber plant in St. Mary's, Ohio, produced its 50,000th rubber track in May.
The milestone track weighed 984 pounds and spanned 27 feet and is the first in a new line of ``aggressive traction'' tracks for the John Deere 8000T and Caterpillar Challenger 35/45/55 model tractors.
Goodyear makes a variety of rubber tracks in its Trackman line for use in agriculture, construction, industrial, recreation and military applications. It began general production of rubber track in late 1992.
