GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (June 2, 2003) — The musings of Francois Michelin on business and faith — collected from a series of interviews with two French journalists — are now available in an English translation of their book.
The Acton Institute, a Grand Rapids-based nonprofit ecumenical think tank, made the book, “And Why Not? Morality and Business,” available through its book shop. Lexington Books published the book as part of its Studies in Ethics and Economics Series.
In the 91-page book, culled from interviews with French journalists Ivan Levai and Yves Messarovitch, the former managing partner of Group Michelin discusses the history of the tire maker and its development of the radial tire, Acton said. Mr. Michelin also talks about his faith, the French government and the morality of business.
“The main thing is to live, but in order to do this, one has to feed on the reality that is hidden behind facts, one has to seek out root causes,” Mr. Michelin said in the book.
The book also includes the “Five-Step Method” used by the tire maker to make decisions.
