NASHVILLE, Tenn. (May 15, 2003) — The Bridgestone/Firestone Trust Fund for the second year will be a platinum-plus sponsor of “Eyes on Design,” the 15th annual fundraising event for the Detroit Institute of Ophthalmology (DIO).
The event, held June 20-22 at General Motors Corp.'s Technical Center in Warren, Mich., celebrates automotive design and art, with a focus this year on 75 years of corporate concept vehicle design. An exhibit on June 22 features about 200 concept and prototype vehicles.
Founded in 1972, the DIO offers support and tools to help the blind and visually impaired enhance their independence. The nonprofit also works to develop career opportunities in the allied health field, with the goal of supplying ophthalmic technicians who may research continuing questions related to the eye and vision.
In 1952 the former Firestone Tire & Rubber Co. established the trust fund, which is now based in Nashville and contributes about $4 million annually to U.S. charities.
