CHARLOTTE, N.C. (May 8, 2003) — Richard P. Johnson has been named chairman and CEO of American Tire Distributors, effective May 5.
Mr. Johnson had been president and CEO of the Charlotte-based distributor since February 2001. Replacing him as president is William E. Berry, who also will serve as the chief operating officer. Mr. Berry had been the company's executive vice president and chief financial officer since 2001.
“As a company, we have worked hard to achieve the growth and success that we have experienced over the last several years,” Mr. Johnson said. “These changes reflect a turning point for our company as we prepare to grow this business by following a strategy of strong customer service, operational excellence and continued commitment to tire retailers nationwide.”
ATD also has started a search for an executive vice president of strategic planning to focus on new market assessment and long-term planning, the company said. ATD plans to add a senior vice president of finance and administration to replace the chief financial officer position. That person would direct credit, finance, information systems and the treasury, according to ATD.
