TOKYO (May 1, 2003) — Yokohama Rubber Co. Ltd. plans to launch a new tire air pressure/internal temperature monitoring system in July for truck and bus tires.
The Tokyo-based tire maker said the product, dubbed HiTES, will be the first offering from its Tire Management System (TMS) program. Yokohama said HiTES provides easily understood numerical information for tire pressure and internal temperature via a sensor unit, a signal receiver, a display and an indicator. The real-time sensors will be mounted on the tire rims to retrieve data, which is then transmitted to the driver.
HiTES—an acronym for Hi-Technology Tire Engineering System—will be marketed in limited quantities to transportation firms and bus operators through Yokohama's tire sales subsidiaries. Yokohama said it also plans to develop a range of systems and products as part of its TMS system.
TMS is designed to optimize tire performance factors such as driveability, durability and fuel consumption. It offers support for tire administration and operations based on tire inspection data, the company said.
