Charles R. ``Chuck'' Ramsey, president of Bridgestone/Firestone North American Commercial Tire Group, will retire April 1.
Mark Emkes, chairman, CEO and president of Bridgestone/Firestone North American Tire L.L.C. (BFNT) will assume Mr. Ramsey's responsibilities until a successor is announced.
``Throughout his career, Chuck has demonstrated a clear focus on the business and loyalty to our company,'' Mr. Emkes said of Mr. Ramsey. ``And he always said that in order to make a difference, each of us needs to exhibit a positive attitude coupled with hard work. There is no one I know who better exemplifies that philosophy than Chuck Ramsey.''
A veteran of nearly 33 years with the company, Mr. Ramsey joined the former Firestone Tire & Rubber Co. in Russellville, Ark., in 1970 as an hourly employee.
During his career he held a series of management positions before becoming executive vice president of Bridgestone/Firestone in 1997 and being elected to the company's board.
In 2000, he became president of the North American Commercial Tire Group. Following BFS's reorganization in 2001, he served as a director of BFNT, Bridgestone Americas Holding Inc. (BFNT's parent) and a sister company BFS Retail & Commercial Operations L.L.C.
Mr. Ramsey will continue to serve BFNT as a consultant, ``giving us the benefit of his business acumen and insight as we navigate through this challenging year,'' Mr. Emkes said.
