MANASSAS, Va. (March 11, 2003)—Merchant's Tire and Auto Centers plans to add as many as five to six new retail outlets this year, said Steve Steffens, vice president of marketing.
The Manassas-based retailer currently operates 112 locations in Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina and Pennsylvania. The company sells Michelin, BFGoodrich, Uniroyal, Kumho and Riken brands.
Two stores—in Woodbridge, Va., and Thomasville, N.C.—are under construction. The retail outlets are expected to be open by June. Both will have eight service bays, which is the average for Merchant's stores.
Mr. Steffens said the Woodbridge store will capitalize on the fast-paced growth of the northern Virginia area. The Thomasville store will replace an older Merchant's store in that city.
Other new stores are expected to be within the company's current geographic region.
