DETROIT (March 4, 2003) — Big O Tires Inc. is moving into six former Penske Auto Centers in Kmart Corp. stores in southeast Michigan this week and plans to take over six more by May 1. The locations are Big O's first stores in Michigan.
TBC Corp. subsidiary Big O granted 12 new franchises in the area to U.S. Autocare L.L.C. of Dearborn Heights, Mich. The first six opened in Warren, Rochester, Marine City, Port Huron, Ann Arbor and Monroe. The others will open in Lake Orion, Waterford Township, St. Clair Shores, Sterling Heights, Troy and Ypsilanti, Big O said.
The franchised locations will carry most major brands along with the firm's signature Big O brand, made by Kelly-Springfield. In addition to selling tires, the stores also perform other automotive maintenance.
At last report, Big O had 536 franchised locations.
