GREENVILLE, S.C. (March 3, 2003)—Michelin Americas Truck Tires (MATT) said sales of its Michelin X One wide single tires are outpacing projections, which the company attributes to the tire's effect on fuel economy.
A spokeswoman said the company does not release specific sales statistics.
According to a report by A.G. Edwards & Sons Inc., fuel can account for as much as 20 percent of a trucking operator's total expense, with tires coming in second.
“Choosing the right tire combination that delivers the lowest cost-per-mile is critical to the success of a trucking operation during difficult times,” said Randy Clark, vice president of marketing for MATT.
Michelin claims the X One tire, launched in 2000, can reduce annual fuel costs as much as 10 percent.
