ARLINGTON, Va. (Feb. 24, 2003)—The National Automotive Service Task Force has posted the original-equipment manufacturers' tool matrix on its Web site to give independent repair shops a snapshot of the availability of equipment.
The Arlington-based task force was created to monitor auto makers in their promise to make repair and diagnostic information available by Aug. 31. That, the NASTF said, will help facilitate the development of broader function generic tools by aftermarket tool and equipment companies.
The task force's tool committee reported in November that nearly all auto makers had reported the status of information submission for six primary systems, including engine, transmission, anti-lock brakes, airbags, HVAC and cruise control.
The task force expects to have emissions-related information available by March 30, with all remaining information by the Aug. 31 deadline.
