WASHINGTON (Jan. 28, 2003) — The Tire & Rubber Division of the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries Inc. is developing a new policy position on state scrap tire laws that it hopes to finalize at the ISRI convention in Orlando April 8-12.
“They're very interested in seeing that state scrap tire policies actually encourage the recycling of tires,” said Tom Tyler, ISRI associate counsel and director of state and local programs. The division also is working on specifications for recycled tire wire that will be considered by ISRI's Ferrous Division at the convention.
“We're trying to increase the marketability of recycled tire wire, and the specifications are a first step,” Mr. Tyler said. The ISRI Tire & Rubber Division was created when the National Association of Scrap Tire Processors merged with ISRI in September 2001. It has 15 scrap tire processor members in 10 states, an ISRI spokeswoman said.
