AKRON (Dec. 26, 2002)—Goodyear has elected James C. Boland to its board of directors to replace Philip A. Laskawy, who stepped down earlier this month to take a seat on General Motors Corp.'s board.
Mr. Boland, a former vice chairman of accounting firm Ernst & Young L.L.C., serves as president and CEO of CAVS/Gund Arena Co., the owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers and Cleveland Rockers professional basketball teams and operator of the city's Gund Arena. His appointment to Goodyear's board was announced Dec. 18.
Before joining the CAVS in January 1998, Mr. Boland worked for 22 years as a partner of Ernst & Young in various roles.
Mr. Laskawy, who was a retired chairman and CEO of Ernst & Young, had been on Goodyear's board since August 2001. He resigned his seat at Goodyear because he felt his position on GM's board could be seen as a conflict of interest since Goodyear is a major supplier for the auto maker.
