DETROIT (Dec. 20)—Just as Bridgestone/Firestone did last year, Ford Motor Co. has agreed to settle claims from attorneys-general in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico involving Ford Explorer rollover accidents.
Ford reportedly will pay $51.5 million to settle the claims, the same amount of BFS, according to news reports.
The states claimed that Ford sold Explorers knowing they were susceptible to rollover accidents. Ford has consistently said that, if anything, Explorers are less prone to rollover than other sports-utility vehicles.
Ford officials could not be reached for comment.
