HINGHAM, Mass. (Dec. 9, 2002) — Mohawk Rubber Sales, a distributor of tire shop supplies and retread equipment, has purchased Italmatic-Pro, an international retread distribution center located in Alpharetta, Ga.

The deal became possible, according to Mohawk, when Italmatic-Pro Owner Alan Rubenstein decided it was time to retire and approached Patrick McGeoghegan, Mohawk Rubber Sales president, about acquiring the company.

Mr. McGeoghegan called the acquisition of the new distribution center—which has more than 12,000 square feet of warehouse and office space—“an important milestone for Mohawk Rubber. It will not only enable us to better serve our valued customers throughout the southeast more efficiently, but it will allow us to bring a higher level of service to both our own customers in this region as well as Italmatic-Pro's customers.

“We're going to take the relationships they've built and bring them to a new level of 'no-hassle' service.”

Italmatic-Pro specialized in servicing mostly the tire retreading industry, according to Mr. Rubenstein, while Mohawk sells a full-range of products to tire dealers and repair shops. “Our clients are very excited about becoming a member of the Mohawk family,” he said in a press release. “Now they can have all their tire equipment and supply needs met through one company that offers better service and a bigger range of products.

“This is a huge benefit for our international clients,” he continued. “They are already experiencing this difference first-hand through cost savings and faster delivery. Our international orders have already increased dramatically with the new products Mohawk has brought to the table.”

Mr. Rubenstein's son, Darryl, will remain as the distribution center's office manager and Mohawk said most of Italmatic-Pro's employees have remained on staff.

Family-owned Mohawk was founded in 1932. It has offices in Hingham, Mass., and Alpharetta, Ga.
