AKRON (Dec. 4, 2002)— Philip A. Laskawy, 61, has resigned from Goodyear's board of directors to take a seat on the General Motors Corp. board, the tire maker said.
Because Goodyear is a major supplier to the Detroit auto maker, Mr. Laskawy resigned his seat to prevent a conflict of interest, Goodyear said. Goodyear's board now has 11 members, nine of whom are independent.
Mr. Laskawy, retired chairman and CEO of Ernst & Young L.L.P., had been on Akron-based Goodyear's board since August 2001.
A Goodyear spokesman said the company has not indicated its plans yet whether to replace Mr. Laskawy. A nominee could be sought at any time with an election at the April annual shareholders meeting, the spokesman said.
