AKRON (Nov. 20, 2002) — In the second round of appointments following the announced retirement of John C. Polhemus as Goodyear's president of North American Tire, Joseph Copeland has been named president of the Akron-based company's Chemical Division. He will replace Jonathan D. Rich, who will take over Mr. Polhemus's position, effective Dec. 1.
Mr. Copeland, 41, has served as the director of finance for both the engineered products and chemical divisions for Goodyear since May 2001. Prior to that, he worked on both technical services for the chemical division and e-commerce for the tire unit since August 2000.
Mr. Rich, 47, had been named president of the chemical division in July 2001 after joining the company in 2000 from General Electric Co. Mr. Polhemus, 58, is retiring after more than 33 years with Goodyear. His move comes four months after the company realigned its tire unit.
