AKRON (Nov. 18, 2002) — Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance Ltd., an independent firm, has recommended ISO 14001 certification for the environmental management system of Goodyear's North American Tire Region.
The administration of the regional system supports the individual management systems implemented by each of the North American Tire plants. All of Akron-based Goodyear's North American tire manufacturing plants achieved certification to ISO 14001 in 2001, The remaining plants are scheduled for certification by the end of 2002, the company said.
"Goodyear's North American Tire Region has met the ISO 14001 certification requirements of all the major automotive manufacturers," said John Loulan, vice president of North American Tire operations. "The management systems in place at the region and factory levels have resulted in improvements in key areas such as reduction of waste, as well as overall environmental performance."
ISO 14001 is an international standard that defines the requirements for environmental management systems used to identify and reduce potential impacts to the environment from an organization's activities.
