MIAMI (Nov. 15, 2002) – Russian tire maker JSC Nizhnekamsk plans to start selling Kama-brand tires throughout the Western Hemisphere through an independent marketing company, Kama Interamerica Ltd. of Miami.
Kama Interamerica already is selling a limited range of bias-ply and radial Kama farm, implement and off-the-road tires, and plans to add passenger and light and medium truck tires as soon as Nizhnekamsk completes tests on its tires to ensure their compatibility with U.S. Department of Transportation standards, according to Michael C. Fabre and Luis Arevalo, vice presidents of Kama Interamerica.
Messrs. Fabre and Arevalo have experience in tire retailing and international tire brokering, Mr. Fabre said.
Sales of the expanded range of tires in the U.S. and Canada are expected to start in January 2003, Mr. Fabre said. Initially sales will be container-load only, F.O.B., Mr. Fabre said, although warehousing may be set up eventually.
Kama Interamerica already is selling throughout Latin America, with the exception of Ecuador and Cuba.
Nizhnekamsk is considered the 23rd largest tire maker worldwide, with production expected to exceed 20 million tires next year, Kama Interamerica said. The company claims a 40-percent market share in Russia.
