GREENVILLE, S.C. (Nov. 11, 2002) — Michelin Retread Technologies, Inc. (MRTI) is reporting an increase in its market share since the beginning of the year, despite an overall drop in the retreading market.
Tom Brennan, Michelin Americas Truck Tires director of commercial business, southeastern region, said the “U.S. retread market is down 1.1 percent through September, but MRTI sales are up 16.4 percent vs. the same period last year.”
Michelin North America Inc. said it is “actively expanding” its MRTI network and continuing “to build relationships with retread dealers who match its commitment to providing superior retreads and service to national fleets.” Michelin claims MRTI “is the only retreading process that uses shearography imaging to check the integrity of each and every casing” and offers proprietary Michelin compounds and tread designs.
The company said its accounts include a number of national and regional fleets. However, while MRTI is in negotiations with a number of potential franchisees, the company said it “would be inappropriate” to disclose more details at this time.
“Our aim is to be strategically selective in our choice of business partners who share our long-term view of the market,” Mr. Brennan said in a press release.
