RESTON, Va. (Oct. 18, 2002) — The Tire Industry Association (TIA) announced that Bob Purcell and Jack Woodland will be inducted into TIA's Hall of Fame on Nov. 5 in Las Vegas during the upcoming Automotive Aftermarket Industry Week trade shows.
"This year's inductees are two of the ´leading lights´ in the tire industry," said TIA President Steve Disney. "Bob and Jack have contributed greatly to the tire industry, and are richly deserving of their awards."
The Tire Industry Hall of Fame has been created from the previous International Tire & Rubber Association (ITRA) and Tire Association of North America (TANA) Halls of Fame. ITRA and TANA merged in July to create TIA.
Mr. Purcell, president of Purcell Tire & Rubber Co., is an association volunteer and a contributor to the growth of TIA's annual Off-the-Road Tire Conference. He recently transferred 100 percent of Potosi, Mo.-based Purcell Tire's common stock to his employees via an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP)—an action that emphasizes dedication to his employees, TIA said.
Mr. Woodland is chairman of Marangoni Tread North America Inc. He has served four times as chairman of the Tread Rubber and Tire Repair Materials Manufacturers Group. Mr. Woodland also has been chairman of the Tire Retread Information Bureau (TRIB) and has served as a member of the advisory councils of the former American Retreaders Association and the National Tire Dealers & Retreaders Association—the precursors, respectively, to ITRA and TIA. In 1999 he was honored with the ARA Industry Leadership Award.
"The Tire Industry Hall of Fame inductees bestow honor and respect on this association," said incoming TIA President Tom Raben. "But this year, with these two inductees, I believe the Hall of Fame will become even more coveted because of the stature of the people we are honoring. I couldn't be happier."
