CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Oct. 14, 2002) — American Tire Distributors' 13th annual golf benefit recently raised more than $40,000 for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and the Ada Jenkins Center.
The event, held Sept. 17 at Birkdale Golf Club near Charlotte, included ATD employees, customers and suppliers. More than 100 golfers participated, according to ATD.
The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation is a leading funder of diabetes research and education; the Ada Jenkins Center offers after-school care, tutorial services, adult learning programs and crisis assistance services to residents in two counties surrounding Charlotte.
Last year ATD—formerly Heafner Tire Group Inc.—raised more than $45,000 at its annual golf outing. Part of those proceeds were donated to the American Red Cross for disaster relief in New York and Washington, D.C., in the wake of the September 11th terrorist attacks. Since the inception of the golf benefit, American Tire Distributors has raised more than $250,000, the company said.
One of the nation's largest independent suppliers of tires to the replacement tire market, ATD operates 62 distribution centers servicing 35 states.
