Yokohama, Kumho hike tire prices
FULLERTON, Calif.-Yokohama Tire Corp. is raising prices 3 to 5 percent on its medium-duty truck, off-the-road and light truck commercial tires, and will hike prices between 3 and 6 percent on its passenger and light truck tires.
All increases are effective Nov. 1. Yokohama said its dealers have been notified of the increases, which are in line with those recently announced by other tire makers.
The company cited several reasons for the price hikes, including infrastructure costs associated with the Transportation Recall Enhancement, Accountability and Documentation (TREAD) Act compliance requirements; increases in raw material prices, especially natural rubber and rubber chemicals; and insurance premium increases.
Also Nov. 1, Kumho Tire USA will raise prices between 3 and 5 percent on its car and light truck tires, depending on the model.

ACCC to roll out tire for dealers
MEMPHIS, Tenn.-American Car Care Centers is unveiling a new tire this month to its 1,000-plus dealers nationwide.
The new American Gold Edition will fill the premium level slot in the American Radial product lineup and be co-branded with Uniroyal. The tire will be an exclusive offering featuring both brand names.
The Uniroyal American Gold edition will come in 21 SKUs and feature a 600 AB UTQG rating in both black and white sidewalls. ACCC will back the tire with a four-year, 70,000-mile warranty.
The new Gold is part of a repositioning of the American radial line, ACCC said. The American Bronze has been eliminated for a more aggressively priced entry-level tire and the American Silver has been repositioned to be more competitive as a step-up tire.
ACCC also is rolling out what it called its biggest consumer promotion ever to launch the Uniroyal American Gold. Starting Nov. 1, customers who buy four American Golds will receive a custom-made BMX bike free. Participating dealers also will receive ad support material and dollars, point-of-purchase display packages and AmeriCash incentives at the retail level.
Steeltex attorneys look overseas
NEW YORK-Three California attorneys leading a class-action lawsuit against Bridgestone/Firestone and Bridgestone Corp. for Steeltex tires have taken their discovery international.
Joseph and Gail Lisoni and Steven M. Weinberger sent letters to all member countries of the United Nations, asking them for any evidence of Steeltex tire failures within their borders.
Bridgestone/Firestone-which has consistently pointed to a federal investigation of Steeltex tires that ended without finding any defect-said it doubted the letter would create much concern within the United Nations.
Mr. Lisoni has said he plans to hold a press conference in Washington Nov. 14 to present evidence to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration of alleged defects in Steeltex tires.
