WASHINGTON (Sept. 26, 2002) — The Automotive Service Association has reached agreement with the manufacturers of 35 different makes of cars on availability of vehicle repair and diagnostic information to independent repair shops.
In a letter to Sen. Byron Dorgan, D-N.D., the heads of ASA, the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers and the Association of International Automobile Manufacturers certified that the car makers would make all such information available to independent repairers at a reasonable price by Aug. 31, 2003.
The agreement was the outcome of a pledge auto makers made before Sen. Dorgan's subcommittee to resolve their differences with independent repairers on this issue, the associations said.
