New Fla. group holds convention
BOCA RATON, Fla.-The newly merged Florida Automotive Trades Association (FATA) held its first trade show and convention July 12-13 at the Rosen Centre Hotel in Orlando.
FATA was created by the merger of the Florida Independent Tire Dealers and Retreaders Association and the Automotive Service Association of Florida.
The show featured 42 exhibitors and more than 500 attendees.
During the meeting, the group elected new officers, including: David Zwalina of Automotive One in Longwood, president; John Deegan of Monro Shocks in Oviedo, president-elect; Shawn Long of Long Tire & Auto Centers in Valrico, vice president; Tom Prescott of The Body Werks in Holly Hill, vice president; Charlie Elder of Ray Gordon Brake Service in Tallahassee, secretary; and Helen Hofmann of the The Car Spa in Orlando, treasurer.
Newly elected board of directors include: Maurice Batista of Pasco Motors in Dade City; Karl Davis of Karl's Advanced Automotive Repair in Ormand Beach; Dick Erickson of Sun Tire Inc. in Jacksonville; Vic Knoblock of Post Office Tire in Ocala; Joe Kovac of Kovac Automotive in Weston; Bob Lanpher of McGee Tire Stores in Lakeland; David Morgan of A-1 Auto Care in Hobe Sound; Rudy Napier of Archer Road Auto Repair in Gainesville; Larry Nystedt of Federated Insurance in Brandon; Rick Smith of Smitty's Garage in Seminole; Mark Stalder of Central Auto Parts in Longwood; and Don Stone of AAA Quality Transmissions in Stuart.
Groups to meet in Ocean City, Md.
BOWIE, Md.-The Washington, Maryland, Delaware Service Station & Automotive Repair Association (WMDA) is holding its annual convention and mega trade show, in conjunction with the Service Station Dealers of America and Allied Trades, Sept. 26-28 at the Ocean City Convention Center in Ocean City, Md.
Other associations, including the Tire Industry Association, the Mid-Atlantic Carwash Association and the Mid-Atlantic Petroleum Distributors' Association, also will attend and present educational workshops. TIA is planning a three-day symposium on scrap tire use and automotive aftermarket recycling.
