GREENVILLE, S.C. (Aug. 29, 2002) – Michelin has introduced the X Straddle, a radial tire specifically for straddle carriers, aircraft push-back vehicles and dock cranes. The tire delivers exceptional tread wear, while allowing for high speeds in demanding port and terminal conditions, the tire maker said.
The X Straddle's tread is designed to offer even tread wear and precise handling, while minimizing vibration, Michelin said. Its deep, ribbed tread pattern and heavy-duty sidewalls help protect against damage and abrasion to the tire and the vehicle.
The X Straddle is designed to run at higher speeds, compared to bias-ply and older radial tires, Michelin said, and under heavy loads while maintaining a cool temperature, helping increase tire life. The tire is retreadable and, Michelin said, easily repairable.
“The need for a durable, long-lasting tire in demanding conditions is critical,” said Michael Ford, Michelin Earthmover, market segment manager for ports and terminals. “The X Straddle delivers productivity and cost savings with its superior tread wear and high-speed capabilities. That is what the customer wants – to move material faster, comfortably and with little downtime. This tire provides that and more.”
