FONTANA, Calif. (Aug. 29, 2002) –Kumho Tire USA passenger and light truck tire shipments in the first half of 2002 have “far exceeded” the industry as a whole, putting the firm on pace to achieve its targeted sales growth this year of 32 percent.
The company would not release specific numbers, said a spokesman, who added it is “slightly ahead” of its goals for the year. Kumho posted a 32-percent increase in sales in 2001 and hoped to follow with similar success this year.
“At the beginning of the year, our stated goal was to achieve 32-percent growth again in 2002, and we're confident we'll achieve that goal,” said David Hudrlik, vice president of sales for Kumho Tire USA. “Our first half unit shipments far exceeded all industry categories for replacement tires, which overall remain relatively flat.”
Mr. Hudrlik said three things contributed to the company's growth rate.: It added ultra-high performance products, “strategic” independent tire dealers and brand awareness created by a 3-year-old multi-media marketing strategy.
Mr. Hudrlik added that Kumho expects the growth trend to continue throughout the year in spite of current economic and industry conditions.
