JACKSON, Miss. (Aug. 14, 2002)—Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. has settled a wrongful death case in a Mississippi circuit court involving an alleged tread separation on a Cooper tire.
“A very significant amount of money” was involved in the settlement, according to Bruce Kaster, one of the plaintiffs' attorneys in the case. The suit involved an April 11, 1999 rollover accident in Yalobusha County, Miss. that killed Donald Pace and seriously injured Johnnie McGill.
Mr. McGill and Pace's widow brought the suit. Beyond acknowledging the settlement, Cooper declined comment on the case, and also on the circuit court judge fining the tire maker $10,000 for failing to make certain documents available to plaintiffs' attorneys by a prescribed date.
