AKRON (July 25, 2002) —William H. Campbell, former senior vice president of sales and customer service at B.F. Goodrich's tire division, died July 20. He was 89.
Born in Williamsport, Pa., on Oct. 4, 1912, Mr. Campbell graduated from the University of Maryland in 1934 and served with the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. In between, he began a career with B. F. Goodrich that spanned 38 years.
Mr. Campbell joined the then-Akron-based tire maker in 1937 as a salesman in Philadelphia. He served in a variety of sales capacities including retail store manager, truck tire representative, district manager and zone manager, and eventually became manager of the company´s southern region, headquartered in Atlanta.
He returned to Akron in 1961 as general manager of dealer tire sales and was subsequently named vice president of replacement sales. He was named senior vice president of sales and customer service for B.F. Goodrich´s tire division in 1971. He retired from the company in 1975 and became a consultant to the tire industry.
Mr. Campbell is survived by his wife, Evelyn, to whom he was married for 61 years; son and daughter-in-law, William R. and Sheila M. Campbell of St. Louis, Mo.; daughter and son-in-law, Patricia A. Campbell and Joseph E. Onstott of Wellesley, Mass.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandsons.
