NASHVILLE, Tenn. (July 22, 2002)—Prior to the Firestone Indy 200 race at Nashville Superspeedway July 20, Firestone Racing and Bridgestone/Firestone hosted more than 200 employees, local dignitaries and journalists at the company's offices to test their pit lane skills and draw attention to the firm's involvement with the Indy Racing League (IRL).
Attendees were invited to change a racing tire and meet more than a dozen IRL drivers. A cookout was included, with proceeds benefiting the Tennessee Breast Cancer Coalition.
Drivers present included two-time Indy 500 winner Helio Castroneves, actor/driver Jason Priestley and Racing For Kids spokesman Robbie Buhl. Racing For Kids is a non-profit organization that uses motorsports to focus public attention on the healthcare needs of children. During the activities at the headquarters of Firestone Racing, the Bridgestone/Firestone Trust Fund presented the organization a $25,000 donation.
Firestone is the official tire of the IRL racing series as well as the Indianapolis 500, and the brand served as the title sponsor for the July IRL events at the Nashville Superspeedway.
