ROME, Ga. (July 22, 2002)—Pirelli Tire North America has confirmed that it has secured an original equipment contract to supply tires to Ford Motor Co. in the U.S.
While details of the contract are forthcoming, Pirelli said it will supply tires for the Lincoln Town Car, Ford Crown Victoria and Mercury Grand Marquis.
Guy Mannino, president and CEO of PTNA, told dealers attending Pirelli's Partner's Meeting in Milan, Italy, in May that the tire maker was close to securing an OE deal with one of the Big 3 U.S. auto makers.
Also at that time, Franco Carini, vice president of OE sales for Pirelli worldwide, told Tire Business that by 2005 Pirelli's goal was to have to have 1 million Pirelli tires fitted on new cars imported into and produced in the U.S. annually.
Currrently, there are a half million Pirelli tires fitted on European cars imported to the U.S., he said.
Pirelli expects these additional OE fitments will have a positive effect on its U.S. replacement sales.
