TRENTON, N.J. (July 15, 2002)—A New Jersey Superior Court judge has ordered Goodyear to unseal 14 of 31 disputed court documents in a wrongful death case involving Goodyear Load Range E tires.
Consumer safety and trial lawyer groups filed a motion for release of the documents, and Judge Jack M. Sabatino said the release of the 14 documents in question “may help save lives and limbs” of motorists.
“The public's right to know important safety information trumps private litigants' agreements to seal documents,” said Rebecca Epstein, staff attorney for Trial Lawyers for Public Justice, in a press release.
Goodyear, however, said in a statement that there is “no basis for the court's assumption that release of certain documents will further public safety.”
