Wholesale prices of radial passenger tires rose 2.6 percent in February from the same month in 2001, according to the most recent Producer Price Index from the Department of Labor.
Radial passenger tires also increased 1.8 percent from the previous month. Meanwhile, prices of truck and bus tires edged up 1.1 percent from January levels and 0.3 percent from a year ago.
Non-radial truck tire prices remained unchanged from the prior month yet were 1.6 percent higher than 2001 levels. Light highway truck tires were up 2.1 percent from 2001 and 2.2 percent from January. Prices for tread rubber, tire sundries and repair materials saw the largest increase, jumping 2.8 percent over 2001 levels.
Prices for tires and tubes rose 1.4 percent from a year ago and from January.
