TROY, Mich. (June 24, 2002) — Tire Wholesalers Inc. (TWI) is expanding the size of its warehouse in Troy by 44,000 square feet, in essence doubling the size of the company's distribution capacity and speeding up its delivery to the Detroit area.
The warehouse expansion, due for completion by this fall, is part of a new business approach for the Troy-based wholesaler, according to TWI President Ross Kogel. The facility will hold thousands of tire brands and sizes and, as part of the new strategy, will make deliveries within four hours to any business in the metropolitan Detroit area.
“This is really pushing the envelope,” Mr. Kogel said. “Our goal is to help any tire business in metropolitan Detroit get the tires they need immediately.”
Any order TWI receives by 10 a.m. will be delivered by 2 p.m. the same day, and orders in by 2 p.m. will be filled by 6 p.m., he explained.
The company's new warehouse addition—an expansion of its 35,000-sq.-ft. facility in Troy—will have eight loading bays.
“With the proliferation of tire sizes, there are very few tire businesses that can locate virtually any size tire and deliver it the same day,” Mr. Kogel said. “This expansion will help us do precisely that, and places us in a unique niche in the Detroit market.” The quicker delivery times also will help dealers—who are “experiencing pressure from their customers to have the right tire immediately”—stay competitive, he added.
TWI, founded in 1969 by Mr. Kogel, has regional locations in Southfield and Cadillac, Mich., in addition to its Troy distribution center.
