WASHINGTON (June 18, 2002)—Still more politicians are joining the group of congressmen, senators, associations and auto enthusiasts who are protesting the potential effect of a pending tire testing and performance rule on the specialty tire industry.
Sending comments to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration were Sens. George Voinovich and Michael DeWine, R-Ohio; Gov. Robert Taft, R-Ohio; and Reps. Bob Ney, R-Ohio, Steve LaTourette, R-Ohio, and Ted Strickland, D-Ohio.
“A lot of them have stepped up to bat for us, and they've really helped,” said Scott Tackett, vice president of human resources and administration for Denman Tire Corp., based in Leavittsburg, Ohio.
As of June 17, NHTSA had posted 5,178 comments on the tire testing standard on its Web site, all but about 100 of which urged an exemption for specialty tires.
