WASHINGTON (June 14, 2002) — Sen. Paul Wellstone, D-Minn., has introduced the Motor Vehicle Owners Right to Repair Act in the Senate. The bill—companion to legislation introduced last year in the House—requires original equipment manufacturers to provide independent auto repairers with access to all emissions and non-emissions service information.
“The last thing America needs is another industry where all the little guys, the small independent businesses, are driven out,” said Sen. Wellstone, who met with Minnesota auto repairers under the aegis of the Automotive Service Association before deciding to sponsor the bill.
