WASHINGTON (June 6, 2002) — Sens. Richard Lugar, R-Ind. and Evan Bayh, D-Ind., and Rep. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, have taken up the cause of their constituents, Denman Tire Corp. and Hoosier Racing Tire Corp.
Messrs. Lugar, Bayh and Brown resubmitted the comments of Denman and Hoosier on the federal tire performance upgrade proposal to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, with introductory letters declaring their support for the specialty tire makers' position.
Lakeville, Ind.-based Hoosier and Leavittsburg, Ohio-based Denman asked for an exemption from the rule, saying its testing requirements were prohibitively expensive and would ruin them. Specialty Tires of America Inc. also requested an exemption.
